Regia Side Table

The Romans named the walnut tree Juglans regia — regia meaning royal. Given the timber, it's hard to argue. Walnut is one of the few woods that looks more expensive the closer you get to it: a grain that runs deep and dark, shifting subtly with the light in a way that cheaper timbers simply don't.
The Regia is a solid walnut side table built on clean, simple bones. The construction is deliberately simple. Walnut doesn't need much done to it — it arrives with character already intact, and the best thing a maker can do is get out of the way.
Four cylindrical legs, a softened rectangular top, proportions that don't overcomplicate themselves. It works beside a sofa, beside a bed, in the corner of a room that doesn't need another thing in it but probably needs a surface. Hand-oiled to bring out the natural grain rather than obscure it.
Walnut varies more than most — in tone, in figure, in the way the grain moves across the top. No two pieces will look identical. That's not a caveat, it's the point.
